Pre-operational Preparation for Physics Experimental Instruments

Theoretical Study and Preliminary Review
Before handling any instrument, it is mandatory to complete a thorough theoretical review. This involves understanding the underlying experimental principles, clarifying the specific objectives of the experiment, and familiarizing oneself with the instrument's basic structure and operating mechanisms. Operators are advised to create preliminary connection diagrams or operational flowcharts to establish a clear mental framework for the procedure. For complex instruments, one should study key sections of the technical manual in advance-particularly safety warnings and startup procedures.

Safety Checks and Status Verification
Prior to formal operation, a systematic safety inspection must be conducted. This inspection covers the following points: verifying that power cords and plugs are intact and undamaged, and that grounding is secure; checking the instrument's casing for any visible damage or cracks; ensuring that knobs and switches are set to their safe initial positions (typically "Off," "Zero," or the maximum range setting); and checking mechanical moving parts for any signs of jamming or abnormal looseness. For instruments involving high voltage, high temperatures, lasers, or radioactive materials, it is imperative to conduct additional checks to ensure that specialized protective equipment is complete and fully functional.

Environmental Assessment and Organization
Ensure that the experimental environment meets the instrument's operational requirements. Verify that the workbench is stable, level, clean, and provides sufficient workspace; avoid using precision instruments in environments characterized by high humidity, excessive dust, strong magnetic fields, or severe vibrations. Confirm that the ambient temperature and humidity fall within the ranges specified by the instrument's manufacturer. Organize all necessary auxiliary tools, consumables, and laboratory notebooks in advance to prevent frantic searching during the actual operation.
