Human–Machine Interface with LCD Display

This moment of inertia apparatus features a user-friendly design with an LCD display for both operation menu and measurement data.

The system has a total height of 900mm and consists of a single vertical rod with two circular disks. The upper disk has a diameter of 60mm, while the lower disk has a diameter of 200mm and a mass of 300g.

The lower disk position can be adjusted within ±5mm. A hand wheel is used for leveling, with both coarse and fine adjustment functions available to ensure precise alignment.

Timing is performed using an upper photogate system that is not affected by hanging strings or mechanical interference.

The timing count can be set from 1 to 99 cycles, and the delay count can be set from 1 to 10 cycles. The timing resolution is 0.01 seconds. The system can store up to five sets of experimental data.

The lower disk is driven by the upper disk via a handle mechanism, which reduces unwanted oscillation during rotation. The rotation angle is controlled through a calibrated scale on the handle together with the photogate system.

This apparatus includes multiple standard samples: two cylinders, one disk, and one ring. Users may also bring their own samples to expand experimental applications.

Students can measure the moment of inertia of objects with different shapes and compare experimental results with theoretical predictions. The photogate system provides high timing accuracy, and the 0.01-second resolution ensures reliable data. All results are clearly displayed on the LCD screen.
